The Celtic Football Club was founded on November 6, 1887 in the sacristy of St. Mary's Church Hall, by an Irish Marist called Brother Walfrid. Its purpose was to raise money to allay poverty in the East End of Glasgow, inhabited by many Irish.
1967 is the most important year in the history of Celtic. Led by the legendary Jock Stein, they won the Scottish Premier League, the Scottish Cup, the Glasgow Cup, the Scottish League Cup, and most importantly, the European Cup. They scored 196 goals that year.
Celtic obtained the European Cup after prevailing in an epic final over Inter de Milan, overcoming an adverse goal in the first minute to win 2-1.
