America is Mexico’s largest club, which plays at home in the Azteca Stadium, temple of world football, where Pele and Maradona were enshrined as gods of this sport.
It was in 1916 when a group of students from the Marist and Jesuits decided to create a football club in Mexico City formed entirely by Mexicans, something very unusual in those days, which dominated British and Hispanic players. In the 20s, when the Mexican League was just created, it becomes one of the top clubs in the league. Being totally Mexican made the club one of the most popular sides. In 1924 reaches its first championship, followed by other three, in what is known as the Tetracampeonato.
