Emerged from the College Galatasaray Lisesi, Galatasaray SK, founded in 1905, it is one of the most successful clubs of Turkish football and the only European champion in their country (UEFA Cup and Super Cup in 2000). Their main rivals are Fenerbahçe, playing with them the “Intercontinental Derby”.
After a successful decade domestically that during the 60s and drought of the 70s and 80s, it was in the late twentieth and early twenty-first century when Galatasaray became, without a doubt, the Turkish representative at European level; in fact, one of their nicknames is “Avrupa Fatihi” (conqueror of Europe).
The arrival to the bench of Fatih Terim in 1996 made Galatasaray a feared side both in Turkey and in Europe. This progression has allowed them to sign some world-class players like Taffarel, Jardel, Drogba, Sneijder or Podolski.
